Ok, what about looking at it this way. When people say Black Pride (it could be any other kind of minority pride, though), what they’re actually saying is they’re proud of struggling, surviving and prospering in a society where life is systematically…

uhhhm so “white” people never ever struggled? i think anyone should be proud of whatever color they are, to say otherwise is pretty hipocritical on your part. And in most areas, african american people have equal, or even sometimes better of an opportunity in life. Yes, there is still racism, but isnt it funny how african american people can be racist towards “white” people, yet that isn’t recognized?

“In most areas, african american[sic] people have equal, or even sometimes better of an opportunity in life.”

This is tantamount to a complete lie. I don’t have the statistics on hand, but

  • Americans of Colour get fewer scholarships [source needed but I read an article about this recently]
  • fewer attend universities or colleges [2007 .pdf]
  • if they attend university, they are less likely to attend full-time[acenet.edu, 2004 .pdf], and they are less likely to graduate [thedailybeast, 2010].
  • more are below the poverty line/are unemployed/have no health insurance/did not benefit from prior economic growth  [americanprogress.org, 2010]
  • Black and Hispanic people-with-uteruses have the highest teen pregnancy rates[guttmacher.org, 2006],
  • a Black man earns less than a White man for the exact same job, not to mention Black and Hispanic women who earn even less than the Black man would earn
  • the gap in the income between Black families and White families is growing [msnbc.com, 2007]

In most areas, the cold, hard facts prove that Black Americans and other POC benefit less from economic growth and increased state spending, and they are hit harder in times of economic decline and higher unemployment rates. Americans of Colour are consistently worse off than White Americans in pretty much any and every area you can think to name.

And finally, no, in our society, White people have never been extradited en masse by Masters of a different skin colour, enslaved and cruelly tortured and thought of as inhuman based solely on their light skin colour, then oppressed relentlessly by the ancestors of their predecessors’ Masters, kept in a state of perpetual economic and educational and medical destitution, then constantly derided for not being grateful that they were no longer being treated as slave animals and asking for equity in a society that promises equality but delivers emotional, verbal, and occasionally physical torture merely because of their light skin tone. No. Whites have not struggled in this way. And how dare you suggest the like.

In writing what you did, you have undermined the actual struggle of many peoples who are actively oppressed by a racist system (and often racist individuals as well) simply because you want to think they as a whole have it “Equal” or “Better” than Whites as a whole. It’s a wrong conclusion based on incorrect facts.

Do your research.
