No, girls wear a hijab. Men don’t have to cover their hair. Turbans are worn (especially in arid areas) to protect the head and neck, and absorb sweat. Many men wear them as a homage to their culture.
When I present feminine, I wear hijab. When I present masculine, I occasionally don a turban, but otherwise wear nothing on my head. I wore a turban for Rainbow Prom because it matched my outfit, and I felt like a prince. [:
